Learn Outdoor Sign Painting with 1 Shot Lettering Enamel
A major part of this course focuses on the tools and materials used to produce outdoor signs with 1 Shot Lettering Enamel. Students will gain hands-on experience working with different substrates and learning how paint behaves across various sign surfaces.

Students will work with materials including:
Plywood substrates
Aluminum substrates
1 Shot Lettering Enamel
Traditional sign painting tools and materials
Outdoor sign painting surfaces
Working on different substrates gives students an opportunity to understand how preparation, brushwork, paint application, and finishing techniques can affect the final appearance of a sign.
Sign Layout & Design
Professional sign painting involves much more than simply painting letters. Sign Layout & Design plays an important role in creating a sign that is organized, readable, balanced, and visually effective.
Students will continue developing their understanding of spacing, composition, lettering placement, proportions, and overall sign presentation. These skills can help aspiring sign painters develop a stronger foundation for future hand-painted sign projects.
Blending Techniques
The course also emphasizes blending, an important technique for creating dimension, transitions, and visual effects within hand-painted lettering and artwork. Students will have the opportunity to practice controlled paint application while learning how blending can contribute to the appearance and character of painted signs.
Convex and Beveled Letters
Another focus of the 2nd Semester course is Convex and Beveled Letters. These techniques allow students to explore dimensional lettering effects that can make painted letters appear raised, shaped, or more visually prominent. Learning these traditional sign painting effects can add another level of craftsmanship to outdoor signage.
Faux Marble Sign Painting
Students will also be introduced to Faux Marble techniques. This decorative approach allows sign painters to recreate the visual character of marble through painted effects, giving students another creative skill to add to their sign painting toolbox.

Combining lettering, blending, dimensional effects, and faux finishes gives students an opportunity to explore several different aspects of traditional sign painting within one structured course.
Final Project: 2' x 3' Plywood Sign
Students will put their developing skills together through a 2' x 3' plywood sign final project. The final project provides an opportunity to apply lessons involving:
Sign Layout & Design
Lettering
1 Shot Lettering Enamel
Blending
Convex and Beveled Letters
Faux Marble
Plywood sign preparation and painting
Creating a complete sign gives students a practical project through which they can apply the techniques covered throughout the eight-week course.
